Manchester United defender Harry Maguire ‘open’ to Serie A move amidst AC Milan and Inter Milan interest
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is ‘open’ to a move to Serie A amidst interest from AC Milan and Inter Milan, according to 90min (h/t Manchester Evening News).
Next summer, the centre-back could be put up for sale by the Red Devils. To that end, the England international is willing to join an Italian club in the upcoming transfer window.
Apart from the two Milan rivals, Juventus also have the 30-year-old on their radar. However, any move will be on loan due to the former Leicester City star’s current wages. But the Old Trafford side could prefer selling him instead.
Maguire made his way to United in the summer of 2019. After a few months at the club, the defender was handed the captain’s armband. He was decent for the most part.
Unfortunately, in the previous campaign, the centre-back’s performances deteriorated. He made a number of errors in the backline and lost the trust of most fans.
Subsequently, with the arrival of Erik ten Hag, the English national has seen his game time dwindle. The 30-year-old has fallen down the pecking order and has spent most of the season on the bench.
Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane have been the gaffer’s preferred pairing in defence at the Old Trafford side. The Argentine and French nationals have stabilised our backline to a certain extent as compared to the previous campaign.
However, with the two out injured, Maguire and Victor Lindelof started in our previous fixture against Sevilla. The second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals saw the Red Devils lose 3-0, with our skipper making a mistake for the Andalusian club’s first goal.

While the English national has consistently performed for the Three Lions, he seems to lack confidence when he puts on a United shirt. Compatriots Chris Smalling and Fikayo Tomori are thriving in Italy. Will the 30-year-old join them? Only time will tell.
