Arsenal join Manchester United in the race for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount
Premier League rivals Arsenal have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, according to Goal (h/t Metro).
At the moment, the 24-year-old’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2024. But talks over a new deal have stalled. As a result, the England international is anticipated to part ways with the Stamford Bridge side at the end of the season.
Therefore, a number of top clubs are eyeing Mount. Apart from the Red Devils and the Gunners, Liverpool are also looking to acquire the midfielder’s services in the coming months.
As for Arsenal. Mikel Aretat wants to reinforce his squad next summer. The North London side have been brilliant this season and are set to play Champions League football in the upcoming campaign.
The Gunners have relied on Thomas Partey, Granot Xhaka and Martin Odegaard in the engine room for most of the season. However, their squad depth has left a lot to be desired. In January, they signed Jorginho to add cover in the middle of the park.
On the other hand, United bolstered their engine room last summer with the addition of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen. However, while the two have been exceptional for the most part, without them, we have lacked the cutting edge in the midfield.
Fred and Scott McTominay have been inconsistent at the Old Trafford side over the years. Marcel Sabitzer has added much-needed quality to the Red Devils’ squad. But the Austrian is only at the club on loan until the end of the season.
Mount has been one of Chelsea’s best players over the years. However, the playmaker has seemingly lost his touch in the current campaign.
