Erik ten Hag reveals Manchester United “working hard” on transfer strategy
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed that the Red Devils are “working hard” to improve the squad in the upcoming transfer window.
In the summer of 2022, the Old Trafford side made some exceptional additions to the team in the form of Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro and Antony. However, the January window saw the Manchester-based club getting Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer on loan to add depth to the squad.
At the end of the season, United are set to prioritise the addition of a number nine to the team. Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane is the former Ajax head coach’s preferred option to bolster the front line.
Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag stressed on the Red Devils being active behind the scenes ahead of the next transfer window. However, the gaffer also stressed on developing the Old Trafford side’s attacking play with the existing players.
“We are working hard in the background so that we get more players in scoring. But at the same time we have to develop the team and develop our attacking play, so that more players come into areas where they can score goals.”
In the current campaign, the Manchester-based club have relied on Marcus Rashford to find the back of the net consistently. The 25-year-old has shouldered the burden of our attack since Ten Hag’s arrival.
Anthony Martial has been on the sidelines for most of the season with various fitness issues. In January, United signed Weghorst to add cover in the striking department.
Unfortunately, while the Holland international has worked his socks off, the 30-year-old is evidently not up to the Red Devils’ standards. The Burnley loanee leaves a lot to be desired with his finishing.
Therefore, we could seemingly do with a prolific number nine in the team. However, apart from a striker, the midfield also looks a bit toothless without Casemiro and Eriksen.

The likes of Fred, McTominay and Donny van de Beek have been inconsistent over the years. Thus, quality in depth is also something that needs to be considered. However, it remains to be seen whether Ten Hag will be able to get the players that he wants next summer.
