Ian Wright impressed with Manchester United star Marcel Sabitzer playing as attacking midfielder in Brentford win

Arsenal icon Ian Wright was left impressed with Manchester United star Marcel Sabitzer after the Austrian played in the attacking midfield role versus Brentford.

The 29-year-old started the match in the middle of the park alongside Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes. However, instead of the Portugal international, it was the Bayern Munich loanee who was given the licence to go forward.

Sabitzer looked threatening throughout the entire match until his substitution in the 71st minute, as Fred replaced him. The Austrian ended up setting up the lone goal of the game.

In the 27th minute, the Red Devils’ cross into the box was cleared out by Thomas Frank’s team. However, Antony dinked the ball back into the box, which the Bayern loanee headed to Marcus Rashford, who scored his 15th goal in the Premier League.

The Old Trafford side dominated the proceedings for most of the match as they hosted the Bees on Wednesday (4 April). In the end, we managed to hold onto our lead and won 1-0.

Speaking after the win via Metro, Wright, who spent seven years during his playing career at Arsenal, felt Sabitzer put in an inspiring performance further up the field for United.

“You have to say, Sabitzer came up with the goods today. With the assist and in certain other areas, he was getting into pockets, making some nice little moves and always making himself available.”

The 29-year-old was signed by the Red Devils on a temporary move in January. His arrival has added much-needed depth to the Old Trafford side’s engine room.

Prior to the Brentford game, Erik ten Hag had mostly deployed the Austrian in the double pivot in the middle of the park. However, the gaffer’s experiment against the Bees paid off, with the midfielder often pulling the strings of our attacks in the fixture.

This gives Ten Hag another option in the squad. Jadon Sancho and Wout Weghorst have also played in the number 10 position this season. Our players’ versatility makes it unpredictable for the opposition, which is good.
