Alan Shearer believes Marcus Rashford “relishing” Manchester United challenge
Premier League icon Alan Shearer believes Marcus Rashford is “relishing” being the main man at Manchester United in the current campaign.
The 25-year-old found the back of the net in the Red Devils’ previous fixture in the 1-0 win over Brentford in the English top flight to get the team back to winning ways. As a result, the England international took his tally for the season to 28 goals in all competitions for the season.
Speaking to Premier League Productions via Manchester Evening News, Shearer, who holds the record for the most English top-flight goals (260), is of the opinion that Rashford is enjoying shouldering the burden of United’s attack.
“He looks bigger and stronger and it looks like he’s enjoying the pressure, the demand of being the main man and having to go out and win games for United. He’s relishing it.”
The forward made his way through the youth ranks at the Old Trafford side. In the 2016/17 campaign, the England international broke onto the scene for the Red Devils.
Subsequently, over the years, the 25-year-old has established himself in the Manchester-based club’s starting lineup. However, last season, he looked short of confidence and barely had an impact.
Thankfully, the arrival of Erik ten Hag has spurred Rashford back to his best. With the lack of prolific goalscorers in the front line at United, the academy graduate has taken the mantle.
Anthony Martial has struggled with injuries in the current campaign. The French national has not been available on a regular basis for the gaffer.
With Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure in November last year, the Red Devils got Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley until the end of the campaign. While the Holland international has worked hard in the Old Trafford side’s starting lineup, he leaves a lot to be desired in the final third.
