Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel hails Manchester United target Benjamin Pavard
Thomas Tuchel, who was recently appointed the manager of Bayern Munich after the dismissal of Julian Nagelsmann, has hailed Manchester United target Benjamin Pavard.
At the moment, the France international is considering his future at the Bundesliga giants. The 27-year-old’s current contract with the Bavarians is set to expire in the summer of 2024.
Therefore, Bayern will have to sell Pavard in the upcoming transfer window if they hope to get any money for him. The Red Devils are interested in the French national. To that end, the Manchester-based club have also held exploratory talks and have him on their shortlist.
But it seems Tuchel is an admirer of the defender. The German head coach put the right-back in the starting lineup in his first game in charge of the Bavarians. The 27-year-old put in an impressive display as the Bundesliga giants beat Borussia Dortmund 4-2 in Der Klassiker.
Pavard also played the full 90 minutes for the Allianz Arena side against Freiburg in the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal. However, the former Chelsea manager’s team lost 2-1.
Speaking to the media via Mirror after the Dortmund game, Tuchel was full of praise for the French national. The German head coach sounds delighted to have the 27-year-old at his disposal.
“He [Pavard] is an underrated player. He can adapt to the highest level and he defends rigorously. He is a top team player, he immediately had my confidence and proved to me that I had been right.”
Therefore, it remains to be seen whether Tuhel’s affection has any bearing on Pavard’s future. United would be lucky to have a versatile player like the French national in their ranks.
Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are Erik ten hag’s two right-backs at the moment. However, the former Crystal Palace star has fallen down the pecking order. As a result, it would not be a surprise to see the 25-year-old part ways with the Red Devils.
