Manchester United have ‘concerns’ over England international Harry Maguire
Manchester United have ‘concerns’ and doubts regarding the quality and ability of England international Harry Maguire, according to ESPN (h/t Express).
While the Red Devils admire the centre-back’s competence on the ball, the Old Trafford side are concerned about the defender’s ‘tendency to rush out to win challenges’.
The 30-year-old’s lack of speed is also seen as a hindrance to the Manchester-based club’s style of play. Under Erik ten Hag, we are playing much quicker football as compared to previous campaigns.
Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have been the gaffer’s preferred partnership in the backline this season. Therefore, it is possible that the former Leicester City star will be sold in the upcoming transfer window.
Maguire signed for United in the summer of 2019 from the Foxes. Over the years, the defender had been a key player for the Red Devils. After a few months at the club, the centre-back was handed the captain’s armband. Unfortunately, the 30-year-old’s performance deteriorated drastically last season.
The Old Trafford side looked shaky at the back in the previous campaign. Subsequently, we capitulated under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, with the England international’s poor displays becoming the centre of attention.
This season, Maguire has lost his influence at United. The defender has become a bit-part player since Ten Hag’s arrival. The centre-back has made 20 appearances in all competitions. But he has started in just five Premier League matches.
Varane and Martinez’s form has not helped the England international’s cause either. Therefore, it would not come as a surprise if the 30-year-old’s stint with the Old Trafford side ended next summer.

While Maguire has showcased his quality on a regular basis for the Three Lions in the last few months, he has been unable to instil the same confidence at United. Thus, the Red Devils have every right to cut their losses and show the defender the door in the upcoming transfer window.
