Barcelona midfielder Gavi stripped of contract amidst Manchester United links
Manchester United target Gavi, who plays for Spanish giants Barcelona, has been stripped of his contract, which has been confirmed on La Liga’s official website (h/t The Sun).
The Blaugrana will have to register the midfielder to his previous as an academy player to feature him. Earlier in the season, the 18-year-old was registered as a first-team player. However, the Spanish top flight did not validate his extension due to the Camp Nou side’s financial issues.
As a result, Gavi is set to become a free agent next summer, with his deal expiring at the conclusion of the current campaign. The departures of Memphis Depay and Gerard Pique have not helped the Blaugrana’s efforts to secure the midfielder’s future.
Apart from the Red Devils, other top European teams have also been associated with the Spain international’s signature. Premier League rivals Liverpool and German giants Bayern Munich also have the 18-year-old on their radar.
Gavi made his way through the famous La Masia. In the previous campaign, the youngster broke onto the scene under Ronald Koeman. Subsequently, the midfielder has become a key player under Xavi.
In the current campaign, the Spaniard has been a regular in Barcelona’s first team. The 18-year-old has made 37 appearances in all competitions for the Camp Nou side, scoring two goals and providing five assists.
Last summer, United signed Casemiro and Christian Eriksen to reinforce the middle of the park. While the Brazil and Denmark internationals have been impressive, other options at Erik ten Hag’s disposal have been inconsistent.
Therefore, we seemingly require fresh blood in the middle of the park. Gavi’s current situation at Barcelona evidently presents an opportunity to United to acquire his services.
