Manchester United ‘remain interested’ in SL Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos
Manchester United ‘remain interested’ in the signature of SL Benfica star Goncalo Ramos ahead of the upcoming transfer window, according to Portuguese outlet Record via UtdPlug on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The 21-year-old’s current contract with the Primeira Liga outfit is set to expire in the summer of 2026 (transfermarkt). However, the Eagles had promised to renew the striker’s deal last year.
But the assurance of signing Ramos to new terms has not been fulfilled as of yet. As a result, the forward has been left ‘very disappointed’ with the Lisbon-based club.
Ramos made his way through the youth ranks at Benfica. In the previous campaign, the forward broke into the Primeira Liga outfit’s first team, playing alongside Darwin Nunez.
However, with the Uruguay international’s move to Liverpool in the summer of 2022, the 21-year-old has taken the mantle at the Lisbon-based club. He has become the main outlet and the talisman for Roger Schmidt’s team.
The Portugal international has enjoyed a stellar 2022/23 season with the Eagles. He has made 36 appearances in all competitions for them, scoring 24 goals and providing 10 assists.
Ramos has also become a key member of the Portugal national side. In the 2022 World Cup, the striker shone. In the ongoing international break, the 21-year-old played a part in his national side’s victories over Liechtenstein and Luxembourg.
At the moment, United’s forward line evidently lacks doeth in the number nine position. Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst are the only two natural strikers at Erik ten Hag’s disposal.

Thus, it seems important for the Red Devils to add reinforcement up top. Ramos is a young forward with a lot of potential. Hopefully, the Portuguese will make his way to the Theatre of Dreams in the coming future.
