Gabri Veiga, who plays for Celta Vigo, would ‘prefer’ a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid amidst links to Manchester United, according to Cadena SER (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The midfielder likes the idea of signing for Los Blancos over the several other Premier League teams looking to acquire his services. Apart from the Santiago Bernabeu side, Barcelona are also eyeing the 20-year-old.

The Spain U21 international is in favour of joining Madrid rather than a stint in England. Los Blancos are willing to activate the €40 million release clause in the youngster’s current contract, which he signed in the summer of 2022.

Veiga made his way through the youth ranks at Celta. The midfielder has broken onto the scene this season and has emerged as one of the most exciting talents in Europe.

The 20-year-old has established himself in the La Liga outfit’s starting lineup with some impressive displays. He has made 29 appearances in all competitions for Carlos Carvalhal’s team, scoring nine goals and providing three assists. The Spaniard’s versatility has seen him play in multiple positions.

At the moment, Carlo Ancelotti has an abundance of talent in the middle of the park. Aurelien Tchouameni, Luka Modric, Toni Kross and Fede Valverde have been ever-present in the Santiago Bernabeu side’s team. They can also call upon Eduardo Camavinga.

As for United, we signed Casemiro and Christian Eriksen last summer. The Brazil international has been solid in the defensive midfield position, while the Denmark international has thrived in the number eight role.

However, the likes of Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek leave a lot to be desired when they come off the bench. Erik ten Hag also has Bayern Munich loanee Marcel Sabitzer at his disposal.

We could evidently do with some fresh blood in the engine room. However, it remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford side will be able to pip Madrid in the race for Veiga’s signature.
