Liverpool ‘increasingly unlikely’ to sign Manchester United target and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham
Premier League rivals Liverpool are ‘increasingly unlikely’ to sign Manchester United target and Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Manchester Evening News].
The Red Devils, along with the Anfield side are interested in the 19-year-old’s signature. However, ‘the anticipated fee, the financial power of rival suitors and their reticence about entering a bidding war at the level expected’ has cast doubt over Jurgen Klopp’s team’s pursuit of the midfielder.
Although, the Merseyside outfit are still in the race for the youngster. But the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid are the two favourites at the moment to acquire the England international’s services.
Liverpool have an ageing midfield right now. Also, the likes of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have not been reliable in the current campaign.
Klopp also has the likes of Naby Keita, James Milner, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain and others at his disposal. Thiago Alcantara has immense quality, but the Spaniard has had a hard time with injuries over the years.
Bellingham signed for Dortmund in the summer of 2020 from Birmingham City. Since then, the 19-year-old has developed into one of the finest prospects in world football.
The midfielder has also established himself in the Three Lions’ starting lineup. In the 2022 World Cup, the youngster played an important role in Gareth Southgate’s team.
United bolstered the middle of the park last summer with the addition of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro. The Red Devils also have Fred, Scott McTominay and Bayern Munich loanee Marcel Sabitzer on hand to provide depth this season.
