Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong dismisses Manchester United links
Frenkie de Jong, who plays for Spanish giants Barcelona, has revealed that he is not going to join Manchester United in the upcoming transfer window.
Last summer, the Red Devils were looking to acquire the Holland international’s services. To that end, the Old Trafford side had also agreed on a fee with the Blaugrana. However, the 25-year-old refused to leave the Camp Nou side.
United are still eyeing De Jong. The Red Devils have retained their interest in the midfielder, with the market set to open once again in the coming months.
However, speaking to Ziggo Sport (h/t Metro), when asked about the links to the Old Trafford side, the 25-year-old dismissed them. The Holland international expressed his satisfaction at the La Liga outfit.
“No, I don’t think I’m going to make that step. You never know, of course, but at the moment I am very happy at Barcelona.”
De Jong made his way to Barcelona in the summer of 2019. The 25-year-old has established himself as one of the best players in the world at the Camp Nou side and has become a key player for Xavi in recent months.
In the Blaugrana’s previous fixture against Real Madrid in La Liga, the Holland international put in an impressive display. In the end, the Catalan outfit beat Los Blancos 2-1 at home.
However, prior to his Barcelona move, the midfielder made a name for himself under Erik ten Hag at Ajax. The gaffer developed multiple talents at the Amsterdam-based club.
Last summer, the Dutch manager was afforded the signings of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen to bolster the engine room. The duo have formed an impressive partnership for United in the middle of the park.
