Erik ten Hag lavishes praise on David de Gea and two others after Manchester United win vs Fulham

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has lavished praise on David de Gea and two others after the Red Devils beat Fulham in the FA Cup.

The Old Trafford side welcomed Marco Silva’s team on Sunday (19 March) in the quarter-finals of the domestic cup competition. In the end, the Red Devils won 3-1 after the Cottagers had taken the lead.

Speaking after the win via Manchester Evening News, the gaffer singled out the Spanish shot-stopper for making a couple of crucial saves in the game. Overall, the 32-year-old was busy throughout the match.

“It was tough. We conceded the goal from the set play and we needed David to survive the game because he had two great saves.”

De Gea was busy in both halves. The opening 45 minutes saw the Craven Cottage side go toe-toe with the Red Devils and create some opportunities. However, the former Atletico Madrid star was on hand to deny the London-based club the lead.

However, in the 50th minute, our goalkeeper was beaten by Aleksandar Mitrovic. A low corner from former United midfielder Andreas Perreira reached the Serbian’s feet, who had an easy tap-in.

After that, the 28-year-old had a few other opportunities as well with his head. However, De Gea made sure Fulham stayed within our reach. Willian also hit a brilliant striker, but the Spaniard was able to palm it away.

At around the 70-minute mark, Antony and Jadon Sancho combined on the break. The former Borussia Dortmund star’s goalbound shot was stopped by Willian with his hands, which resulted in three red cards and a penalty, which Bruno Fernandes scored from. Ten Hag was impressed with the two attackers as well.

“And then the key moment it was a great attacking transition and really well done by Antony, really well done by Jadon (Sancho), and it was a clear and obvious penalty.””

Chris Kavanagh first sent Fulham boss Marco Silva to the stands for his protestations during the VAR check for the handball. Subsequently, Willian was sent off and then Mitrovic was given his marching orders after a push on the referee.
