Christoph Baumgartner ‘ready to leave’ Hoffenheim next summer amidst Manchester United links
Hoffenheim star Christoph Baumgartner is ‘ready to leave’ the Bundesliga outfit in the upcoming transfer window amidst links to Manchester United, according to Kicker (h/t Manchester Evening News).
For some time now, the midfielder has been expected to be the next big export from the German side. Now, the 23-year-old has decided to part ways with Die Kraichgauer next summer.
At the moment, Hoffenheim are at the bottom of the league table in the Bundesliga. Baumgartner is not expected to stick around regardless of the fact whether the PreZero Arena side get relegated or not.
But apart from the Red Devils, Premier League rivals Liverpool are also interested in the 23-year-old. The Merseyside outfit have an advantage and Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the midfielder.
Currently, the Anfield side have the likes of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara, amongst others, in the middle of the park. However, they are expected to bolster their engine room in the upcoming transfer window.
Baumgartner moved to Hoffenheim in the summer of 2017. After developing in the Bundesliga outfit’s reserve team, the midfielder established himself in their senior squad in the 2019/20 season.
Since then, he has been impressive. While Die Kraichgauer have struggled in the current campaign, the 23-year-old has been decent, scoring five goals and providing four assists in 23 league games.
Last summer, Erik ten Hag was given the services of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen. The two have been pivotal to the Dutch manager’s plans. However, our strength in depth in the middle of the park leaves a lot to be desired.
