Antonio Conte reveals Tottenham Hotspur want to keep Manchester United target Harry Kane
Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has revealed that the North London side want to keep Harry Kane amidst interest from Manchester United.
Erik ten Hag has earmarked the 29-year-old as his top target in the upcoming transfer window. The England international’s current contract with Spurs is set to expire at the end of next season.
However, speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Conte, whose future in the Tottenham dugout is uncertain, believes the North London side want to keep hold of Kane for his entire career.
“I think this is a question for the club, because, for sure, the club wants to involve Harry Kane for the rest of his career, in my opinion. Whenever you have this type of player, a world-class striker like him, for sure, you want him to stay here for the rest of his career.
“You know football and sometimes it is unpredictable. It is not in my task to make a decision and this is a decision for the club and for Harry.”
The England international made his way through the youth ranks at Spurs and broke onto the scene in the 2014/15 campaign. Since then, the striker has established himself as a prolific goal-scorer in the Premier League.
While the 29-year-old has been one of the best players in the world over the years, silverware has eluded him at Tottenham. The forward is yet to win a single trophy with the Lilywhites.
Kane has also held the captain’s armband for the Three Lions over the last few major tournaments. He has led Gareth Southgate’s attack for some time now and has gotten close to winning titles, reaching the 2018 World Cup semi-final and the Euro 2020 final.
This season, United have relied on Marcus Rahford to find the back of the net. The 25-year-old has shouldered the burden of the Red Devils’ attack since Ten Hag’s arrival.
Apart from the Old Trafford side’s academy graduate, none of our other attackers has contributed considerably in the final third. The Dutch manager also evidently lacks options for the number nine position, with Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst in the squad.
