Manchester United “informed” on free transfer for Ajax youngster Amourricho van Axel Dongen
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is eyeing the signature of Ajax youngster Amourricho van Axel Dongen on a free transfer next summer.
The 18-year-old’s current contract with the Eredivisie outfit is set to expire at the end of the season. However, the Amsterdam-based club are keen on extending the left winger’s stay at the club and have offered him a deal until 2027.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter (h/t Express), stated that the Red Devils are one of the clubs who are informed on the situation of Van Axel Dongen, who will become a free agent if he does not agree on new terms with Ajax.
“Understand Manchester United are one of the clubs informed on the situation of Ajax 2004-born talent van Axel Dongen as potential free agent. Ten Hag knows him — Ajax have offered new deal until 2027, there’s still no full agreement.”
The 18-year-old has made his way through the youth ranks at the Eredivisie outfit. In the previous campaign, the youngster made his debut for De Godenzonen in the KNVB Cup,c coming on as a substitute in the 4-0 win over Barendrecht in the second round.
Subsequently, the Netherlands U18 international featured for the Amsterdam-based club in the league as well last season. He played the final minutes of the fixture against FC Utrecht, who were beaten 3-0.
However, Van Axel Dongen has not featured for the first team since due to an injury. Fitness issues have hampered the youngster’s development and growth in the current campaign as well.
Ten Hag was appointed United manager at the end of last term. The former Ajax head coach reunited with Lisandro Martinez and Antony in Manchester in the summer of 2022.
The Argentine centre-back has formed a solid duo with Raphael Varane in the backline. Over the last few months, the 25-year-old has been pivotal to the Red Devils’ success. The Brazilian forward has also been an essential player in the starting lineup for the gaffer.
