Lisandro Martinez enjoys playing alongside Raphael Varane in Manchester United defence
Manchester United defender and Argentina international Lisandro Martinez enjoys playing alongside Raphael Varane in the Red Devils’ backline.
The 25-year-old signed for the Old Trafford side in the summer of 2022 from Ajax. Upon reuniting with Erik ten Hag at the Manchester-based club, the centre-back has been ever-present in our starting lineup.
Martinez has been paired with the France international by the gaffer on a majority of occasions. The two World Cup winners have formed a steady partnership for us this season.
Speaking to media via United’s official website, the 25-year-old revealed that he has formed a nice bond with the former Real Madrid star.
“Rapha [Raphael Varane] is an amazing player. I really enjoy playing with him. We always enjoy [being together] in training, but the good thing is [we are] working hard. We are doing an amazing job, but we [also] have Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire.”
The Red Devils have a stacked backline at the moment. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have hardly seen any minutes on the pitch in the current campaign.
In the past, our captain and the Sweden international were pivotal players for us. However, in the previous campaign, the two left a lot to be desired in the defence.
The former Leicester City star has been underwhelming at the Old Trafford side for the last few months. Last season, the 30-year-old made a lot of errors that led to us leaking goals.
Varane did not have the best of debut campaigns as well in Manchester. Injuries hampered the 29-year-old. However, with Martinez, the French national seems to have found the perfect partner.
The Argentine struggled in his first two matches as a United player. However, since then, the 25-year-old’s tenacity and aggression have been embraced by the fanbase. Hopefully, the former Ajax defender will continue his fine form and become even better.
