Ruben Selles expects changes to Manchester United starting lineup vs Southampton
Southampton head coach Ruben Selles expects Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag to rotate his team in their next Premier League match.
The Red Devils will welcome the Saints to Old Trafford on Sunday (12 March). We have had the same starting lineup in our last two fixtures, including the historic 7-0 loss to Liverpool.
Speaking to the media via HampshireLive, Selles, who has taken charge of the Saint Mary’s Stadium side after Nathan Jones’ sacking, believes Ten Hag has done well to turn things around after the debacle at Anfield.
“They will try to have momentum after that difficult moment in Anfield. I think it is difficult to manage these types of moments and I think Erik ten Hag did a good job with that.
“I expect some rotation in the line-up, every three days and as we can see, he made the correct decision to stick with his players.”
After losing to Liverpool, the gaffer opted for the same team versus Real Betis in the first leg of the round of 16 of the Europa League. United bounced back in fine fashion, beating Manuel Pellegrini’s team 4-1.
The season has been long so far. However, with the 2022 World Cup, the calendar was congested for the current campaign. On top of that, the Red Devils went all the way in the Carabao Cup and are still alive in the UEL and FA Cup.
We are fighting on all fronts. The Old Trafford side also need to keep getting positive results in the English top flight to avoid slipping up in the race for a top-four spot.
Even with so many games, Ten Hag has mainly relied on a set group of players week in, week out. Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford are the players with the joint-most appearances (41) for United this season.
The likes of Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot, amongst others, have also been consistently in the starting lineup.

Southampton have not been able to beat United in their last six visits to Old Trafford. The Saints are currently at the bottom of the table in the PL. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether the gaffer will opt to give certain players a rest on Sunday.
