Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag provides injury updates on Anthony Martial and Christian Eriksen

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes he could have Anthony Martial in the squad for the Southampton game while being confident about having Christian Eriksen back before the end of the season.

Eriksen was injured by a tackle from Reading striker Andy Carroll during the FA Cup tie in late January. At the time, it was reported that the Danish international would be out for three months.

It could mean that he could be back in action by the end of April, ahead of the final stretch of the season. Martial, on the other hand, has been out injured since coming off the bench in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final tie against Nottingham Forest in early February.

Talking about the duo and their potential return dates, here’s ten Hag (h/t Manchester Evening News):

“Yeah, but I think all the time we had a good plan and it worked until now not always good. But he [Martial] is on his way back, he’s back in training but we will be cautious, yeah.

“I think he [Eriksen] will play, yeah [before the end of season], definitely. I can’t tell now an expectation, but I think his progress in the rehab is okay, is going according to plan. So we will definitely see him but not before the international break.”

With the squad getting stretched due to games coming every three days, United need as many players to come from injuries as possible. Although Marcus Rashford is doing a great job of scoring goals and being a threat to the opposition’s defences, he would need support soon.

Wout Weghorst is deployed more as a number 10, hence we cannot expect him to score goals every game.

After the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, there was a danger that if Martial remains out for most games, we might struggle for goals. So far, Rashford has saved our blushes by being in top form. But, the team could do with the Frenchman coming back and staying fit till the end of the season.
