Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is “calm” about his situation when asked about links to Manchester United and Erik ten Hag.

In the summer of 2022, the Red Devils had agreed on a fee with the Blaugrana for the 25-year-old. However, with the Holland international having disagreements with the Spanish giants over wages, he ended up staying at the Camp Nou side.

However, the Dutch manager is still interested in acquiring De Jong’s services in the upcoming transfer window. The gaffer will look to add a number nine and a midfielder to the Old Trafford side’s squad at the end of the season.

On Catalan radio station RAC1 (h/t Manchester Evening News), the Holland international was asked whether the coming summer would once again see him being linked to United. The 25-year-old was adamant about staying at Barcelona.

“I’m very calm, happy. I want to stay at Barcelona for many more years.”

De Jong broke onto the scene at Ajax under Ten Hag. After an impressive 2018/19 campaign, where the Eredivisie outfit reached the Champions League semi-final, the Blaugrana came knocking for the midfielder’s signature.

In Spain, the 25-year-old has gone from strength to strength and developed into a world-class star. He has become a key player for Xavi now.

However, at the start of Xavi’s tenure as the Camp Nou side’s manager, the Holland international struggled for game time. The likes of Sergio Busquets, Gavi and Pedri are also in the La Liga outfit’s ranks.

Last summer, United ended up signing Casemiro and Christian Eriksen to bolster the middle of the park. The Brazil international has been a difference maker for us in the engine room, putting in several Man of the Match performances over the last few months.

However, the Red Devils could still do with more quality in midfield, considering the lack of depth with Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek the only ones on the Old Trafford side’s books permanently. Marcel Sabitzer is on loan. But it remains to be seen whether De Jong will leave Barcelona.
