Paul Parker feels Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho has potential to win Ballon d’Or
Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker believes Argentine national Alejandro Garnacho has the potential to win the Ballon d’Or in the future.
The 18-year-old has broken into the senior squad in the current campaign. In recent months, the forward has put in some impressive performances, with Erik ten Hag slowly relying more and more on the youngster.
Speaking to MyBettingSites (h/t Express), Parker, who spent five years at the Old Trafford side, feels Garnacho has the potential to get to the very top if he is developed right.
“Garnacho is way better when he is being subbed on than when he is in the starting lineup. It seems like he doesn’t have the energy to play 90 minutes but he is a really talented player. I would even say Ballon D’or potential but I don’t want to put too much pressure on a young lad like him.”
The 18-year-old was signed by the Red Devils in the summer of 2020 from Atletico Madrid. Over the years, the youngster made his name in the Manchester-based club’s youth sides.
In the previous campaign, the Argentine was impressive as he won the FA Youth Cup with the U18 team. Subsequently, this season, the Dutch manager brought the forward into the first-team fold.
However, initially, Garnacho found it hard to get minutes in the team. Ten Hag did not seem to count on the 18-year-old. But the youngster finally got his full debut for United in the Europa League versus Sheriff Tiraspol in the group stages.
Garnacho went on to put in some clutch performances. Some of the forward’s most memorable displays in the current campaign have come off the bench against the likes of Aston Villa, Fulham and Manchester City.
However, the left wing has been occupied by Marcus Rashford on most occasions. The 25-year-old has been in red-hot form this season. He has consistently found the back of the net.

For now, the 18-year-old has deputised admirably when called upon. Hopefully, in the coming future, the Old Trafford side are able to develop the Argentine in the right manner for him to be able to fulfil Parker’s prophecy.
