Luke Shaw credits Erik ten Hag for Manchester United turnaround after Carabao Cup win

Manchester United star Luke Shaw has credited Erik ten Hag for the Red Devils’ turnaround after the win over Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final.

The Red Devils beat Eddie Howe’s team 2-0 at Wembley Stadium to lift their first silverware in six years. Goals from Casemiro and Marcus Rashford in the first half helped us end our trophy drought.

However, considering the start the Old Trafford side had to the season, what the Dutch manager has achieved has been impressive. We lost to Brighton & Hove Albion and were humiliated by Brentford in the first two games of the campaign.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Shaw feels Ten Hag has done a great job with the progress he has made at Man United. The gaffer has helped us take strides in the right direction.

“If you look at the start of the season, how we started, nobody would have thought we would have won our first trophy six/seven months later.

”It’s a credit to him [Erik] the way he has transformed the team and he has brought that winning spirit back. We, as players, really believe in him and we are really enjoying playing under him. Hopefully, this is just the start of something special.”

The former Ajax head coach was appointed in the Old Trafford side’s dugout at the end of last season. Both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick had failed at turning the Red Devils into a competitive outfit.

At the start of this campaign, it looked like the fans were in for another long season. However, with Ten Hag’s direction and the addition of some key players, we seem to be back on track.

Before lifting the Carabao Cup, Man United knocked out Barcelona from the Europa League. We beat the La Liga table-toppers 2-1 at home to advance to the round of 16.

The Dutch manager also has us in a good position in the Premier League. Arsenal and Manchester City are the only two teams that have been better than us this season.

At the moment, while there is still a considerable gap between us and the top, the Gunners and Pep Guardiola’s team are in a bit of a rough spell. That could help us creep further up the table if we continue to perform well.

The Old Trafford side are also still alive in the FA Cup. Hopefully, before the end of the campaign, Ten Hag will have a few more medals around his neck.
