As quoted by Daily Mail, Manchester United star Marcus Rashford on what is required to succeed in football and how he turned his form around this season.

The 25-year-old had a difficult time last season, where he missed the first part of it due to shoulder surgery following the disappointment in the Europa League and UEFA Euros Final.

This season though, things have been different. Under Erik ten Hag, Rashford has looked like a who has got his mojo and confidence back. He is not only scoring and assisting goals but having a major impact in games due to his quality on the ball and his movements in the final third.

Here’s what the United star said when asked about the requirement to succeed and how he turned his form around (h/t Daily Mail):

“Football is probably 95 per cent to do with your mentality,’ he says. ‘For me, that’s everything. It gives you the baseline to perform. There are a lot of players who have ability, but what sets them apart is mentality.

“I’ve been on both sides of it. I understand the strength of it and the value of it. I’m just concentrating more on keeping myself in that head space.

“I’m just in the areas to score goals more consistently. The staff are talking to you about that one chance, giving me constant reminders to keep going. If the ball doesn’t come, don’t worry, believe it’s going to come, because it’s only going to come one time. As a forward, that’s sometimes the game.”

Whatever he and the United staff has done, has worked wonders so far this season. The 25-year-old has 24 goals and nine assists in all competitions, with a good chunk of games still to be played.

A few weeks ago, ten Hag set the player a target of breaching the 30-goal mark. On current form, we will be surprised if he does not go past 35 goals by end of May.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher wrote an article on why Rashford could pip Erling Haaland for the Player of the Year Award. The United man is one of the main reasons why United are alive in all four competitions going into the Carabao Cup Final. Manchester City, on the other hand, were winning trophies even when Haaland wasn’t scoring a bucketload of goals this season.

But, we all know a player is defined by how he does in the biggest of games. The cup final against Newcastle United is one such opportunity for Rashford. If he does well in this game and leads United to silverware, his status as the best player in the league cannot be questioned at the moment.
