Erik ten Hag urges Manchester United players to win Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has urged his players to win the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United on Sunday (26 February) at Wembley Stadium.

The Red Devils have beaten the likes of Aston Villa, Burnley and Nottingham Forest to get a chance at ending the six-year trophy drought at the Old Trafford side.

Speaking to the media via Daily Mail, Ten Hag feels Man United have earned the right to be in the final. The Dutch manager has demanded that the Red Devils take the opportunity to win some silverware.

“It’s clear, you feel it. The fans are really waiting for it, so we do everything we can to give the fans their honour. We deserve to play the final and now we have a great opportunity to win the cup, so we have to do everything to get that cup to Manchester.

“It’s a great opportunity to get the silverware in. It’s all about that. It’s about glory and honour in football.”

This season, Eddie Howe’s team have been in fine form. The Magpies are challenging for a top-four spot in the Premier League. The Tyneside outfit have gone several decades without lifting any title.

Newcastle last played for honours against the Old Trafford side in the 1999 FA Cup final. However, in the end, we beat the Magpies 2-0.

Man United have been impressive in the current campaign. Ten Hag has managed to steady the ship in Manchester after years of underachievement and disappointment at the club.

We beat La Liga leaders Barcelona in the Europa League playoff tie to advance to the round of 16. The Red Devils have also gotten the better of the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City this season.

The Old Trafford side last won a trophy under Jose Mourinho. Under the Portuguese manager, we won the EFL Cup and the UEL in the 2016/17 campaign.

Will Man United be able to replicate that feat this term? Only time will tell. Hopefully, we are able to get the monkey off our backs and triumph at Wembley Stadium on Sunday. It will be interesting to see how the gaffer sets us up for the important fixture.
