Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag on how Sir Alex Ferguson has influenced him

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the Carabao Cup Final, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag talked about how Sir Alex Ferguson has influenced him and everyone at the club.

A few days ago, ten Hag went out for a dinner with Sir Alex and spoke to the media about how much he learned from the great man and hoped to have more dinners in the future.

We all know the legendary status and influence Ferguson has on the club for the current and any future generation coming up.

Here’s what ten Hag said when asked about the best message he received from the legend himself (h/t Sky Sports):

“He is by doing (not words). I think he left a legacy and that is Manchester United stands for winning and a winning culture. I think he’s such a great example for all of us, for humanity, but for all of us around and in Manchester United, he’s such a big example and we hope that we can make him proud on Sunday.”

It is great to see the boss embracing the pressure of winning and the culture around it that was left by Sir Alex Ferguson. Previous managers have found it tough to cope with that, but ten Hag seems to have taken it in his stride.

How United have performed this season, is a result of great coaching, excellent man-management skills and magnificent leadership exhibited by the former Ajax boss.

He came into a job that was both difficult and toxic. The way he handled the tricky situations around some of the big players in the world is admirable. That, added to his elite coaching which has prospered the team is something to behold.

However, we all know that trophies are the only currency of success at Manchester United. The chance to lift the first, of hopefully many, is there at Wembley today. It has been a great season so far, but winning the Carabao Cup Final could elevate the confidence of this team to levels they wouldn’t even imagine for the rest of this season.
