Aston Villa ‘would consider’ Emiliano Martinez sale next summer amidst Manchester United goalkeeping search

Premier League rivals Aston Villa ‘would consider’ the sale of Emiliano Martinez next summer amidst a goalkeeping search from Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail (h/t The Sun).

While the Villans are open to parting ways with the Argentina international, they are set to demand a significant fee for him. At the moment, the Lions are not under any pressure to get rid of the 30-year-old. Although, they know the shot-stopper could guarantee them a healthy profit.

Therefore, Unai Emery’s team are open to the possibility of cashing in on the 2022 World Cup winner. The Spanish manager is looking to get a ‘sweeper-keeper’ at the Birmingham-based club.

In the upcoming transfer window, a number of clubs, including the Red Devils, could be in the market for a new goalkeeper. Tottenham Hotspur are also one of the sides in search of a new number one.

Martinez signed for Villa in the summer of 2020 from Arsenal. The 30-year-old had spent a decade on the Gunners’ books before making a permanent switch to the Villans.

However, the Argentine’s stock rose in the 2019/20 season when he came in for injured Bernd Leno and went on to win the FA Cup with the North London side.

Subsequently, the shot-stopper has tasted massive success with La Albiceleste. He was pivotal for Lionel Scaloni’s team as they lifted the Copa America in 2021 and triumphed in Qatar.

At the moment, David de Gea is the first choice in between the sticks for Erik ten Hag’s team. The Spain international has been in fine form for the Red Devils since last season. The 32-year-old has come in clutch this season.

Martinez is a quality goalkeeper. However, he is not a lot younger than the former Atletico Madrid star. Therefore, if the Old Trafford side want to pursue a new shot-stopper, it would seem wise to sign someone who is young and has a lot of potential.
