Manchester United have ‘genuine interest’ in AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham
Manchester United have ‘genuine interest’ in former Chelsea star and current AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham, according to CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs on CaughtOffside (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils are eyeing a move for the England international in the upcoming transfer window. Next summer, the Old Trafford side will look to add a new number nine to their ranks.
As a result, the 25-year-old is one of the players the Manchester-based club are interested in. The forward has had a fruitful spell in Italy so far under our former manager Jose Mourinho.
Abraham joined the Giallorossi in the summer of 2021 from the Blues. In his debut season with the Serie A outfit, the striker made 53 appearances in all competitions, scoring 27 goals and providing five assists.
Roma went on to lift the UEFA Europa Conference League in the previous campaign. The England international was pivotal in Mourinho’s team’s achievements.
However, this season, the 25-year-old has not enjoyed as much success in front of goal. Subsequently, the forward also missed out on a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the 2022 World Cup.
At the moment, Erik ten Hag is able to call upon Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst for the number nine position. Unfortunately, the Holland international has had to play a lot of minutes since his arrival in January due to the former AS Monaco star’s fitness problems.
Marcus Rashford has been the one who has led the Red Devils’ line on several occasions this season. The 25-year-old is the Old Trafford side’s leading goal-scorer in the current campaign.

While Abraham has shown glimpses of his talent in Italy, his form right now is not promising. Therefore, before opting to buy the England international, it would be wise for United to pursue a more prolific striker.
