Erik ten Hag aims to take Manchester United back to the top

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag aims to take the Red Devils back to the top of the footballing world after their lack of success in recent years.

The Dutch manager was appointed in the Old Trafford side’s dugout at the end of last season. In the previous campaign, we were underwhelming and both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick were relieved of their roles.

Speaking to UEFA.com (h/t Manchester Evening News), Ten Hag is delighted to be part of United. The gaffer is looking forward to rebuilding the Red Devils and returning them to their former glory.

“I’m fine and I’m happy there. I was looking for a new challenge and Manchester United was a big club, but obviously less successful [in the] last couple of years, so there’s huge talent to restore that big club [to] where they belong.”

The Old Trafford side have deteriorated in stature since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure. The Scottish head coach was pivotal in taking the Manchester-based club to the top.

Unfortunately, over the years, United have been unable to replicate their past glory. Manager after manager have failed to come close to Ferguson’s feat at the Red Devils, who we lifted our last Premier League title with in 2013.

David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Solskjaer have come and gone. Even though we have had a few moments, the Old Trafford side have never looked competitive enough.

The last trophy the Manchester-based club got their hands on was the Europa League in 2017 under Jose Mourinho. However, Ten Hag has managed to instil hope in the fanbase once again with the team’s recent displays.

Later this month, United will have a chance to win the Carabao Cup. We are also still alive in the UEL and the FA Cup. The PL title race is also looking enticing, with the Red Devils third in the table at the moment. Hopefully, the Dutch manager will be able to bring back the good times to the Theatre of Dreams.
