Chelsea and Manchester United ‘in the race’ for Independiente del Valle midfielder Kendry Paez
Manchester United, along with Premier League rivals Chelsea, are ‘in the race’ for Independiente del Valle youngster Kendry Paez, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter (h/t Express).
A bid has already been made to land the Ecuador national. The 15-year-old, who plays in the middle of the park, is expected to make a decision on his future soon. Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen are also eyeing the midfielder.
Chelsea have already made an offer for the youngster. The Blues have invested heavily in their squad since the arrival of Todd Boehly. In the previous transfer window, the Stamford Bridge side signed prospects like Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana.
Graham Potter’s team also signed Enzo Fernandez in January. The 2022 World Cup winner’s arrival saw the departure of Jorginho to Arsenal last month. The Argentina international has shown glimpses of his talent in West London.
Paez currently plays in the youth ranks at Independiente. The midfielder is yet to make his first-team debut for the Liga Pro outfit’s senior side.
Apart from impressing with the Ecuadorian side, the 15-year-old has also caught a lot of people’s attention with his displays for La Tri’s U17 side.
United’s current ranks include the likes of Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage. The two midfielders put in some encouraging performances for the Red Devils during the pre-season under Erik ten Hag.
The Dutch manager was also afforded the signings of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro in the summer of 2022 to bolster the engine room. The two have been pivotal to the gaffer’s plans in Manchester.
