Barcelona shot-stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen expects “different” challenge against Manchester United
Marc-Andre ter Stegen, the goalkeeper at Barcelona, is expecting a “different” challenge when Manchester United take on the Blaugrana in the Europa League.
The Red Devils will visit Camp Nou on Thursday (16 February) in the first leg of the knockout round playoffs of the UEL. Going into the fixture, the Old Trafford side and the La Liga outfit are in good form.
Speaking ahead of the match to the Daily Mail, the Germany international is excited about the game against United. The 30-year-old is anticipating a tough matchup.
“It’s interesting to see how we can react in certain situations and knowing that we play Manchester United it might be very different to what we know from La Liga and we will have to adapt. You have to have a plan for every situation.”
In the current campaign, Ter Stegen has regained his former mojo. In the last few years, the shot-stopper’s performances had stagnated a bit. But he has been pivotal for Xavi.
This season, the Germany international has started in goal on 29 occasions for Barcelona. He has kept 17 clean sheets and has conceded just 20 goals.
Overall, the Blaugrana have looked solid defensively after struggling at the start of the term. The La Liga giants have won three of their last five fixtures in the league 1-0. While the Catalan side have not been at their best in the attack, they have been resolute at the back.

The likes of Jules Kounde, Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen have formed a solid partnership in the Spanish outfit’s backline. Xavi can also count on Robert Lewandowski to find the back of the net.
But Erik ten Hag is also seemingly building something special in Manchester. United are currently third in the Premier League table.

The next few weeks could define the Red Devils’ season, with the second leg against Barcelona to be followed by the Carabao Cup final later this month. Hopefully, the Old Trafford side will be able to get the better of the Blaugrana and qualify for the UEL round 16.
