Xavi reveals Barcelona forward Ansu Fati “not for sale” amidst Manchester United interest

Barcelona manager Xavi has revealed that Spain international Ansu Fati is “not for sale” amidst interest from Manchester United.

The Red Devils have been linked with a move for the 20-year-old. In the current campaign, the forward has found game time hard to come by at the Blaugrana.

Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Xavi cannot comprehend why Fati’s future is up in the air. The Spanish manager has full faith in the potential and ability of the 20-year-old for the La Liga outfit’s present and future.

“I don’t understand why this is being talked about now. There is no transfer window now so Ansu is not for sale. He’s a very important player for us now and for the future. I have extraordinary confidence in him.”

The youngster made his way through the youth ranks at Barcelona. At the ripe age of 16, the forward caught a lot of people’s attention with his performances for the Catalan outfit’s first team.

Subsequently, Fati was seen as the next generational talent from La Masia. Unfortunately, in recent seasons, the Spaniard has failed to live up to the expectations.

Injuries have hampered the 20-year-old’s development at the Blaugrana. In the current campaign, the forward has made 31 appearances in all competitions, mostly on the left wing, scoring six goals and providing three assists.

At United, Erik ten Hag can call upon the likes of Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and others in the wide areas. However, for the number nine position, only Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst are natural options.

Unfortunately, the gaffer has been unable to consistently rely on the former AS Monaco star due to his injury problems. As for the former Wolfsburg star, he is on loan at the Red Devils from Burnley. Therefore, a striker evidently should be a priority next summer.
