Dimitar Berbatov warns Manchester United target Harry Kane against leaving Tottenham Hotspur
Manchester United icon Dimitar Berbatov has warned Harry Kane against leaving Tottenham Hotspur amidst interest from the Red Devils.
The 29-year-old will be in the final year of his current contract after the end of the 2022/23 season. As of now, the England international is still contemplating his future and is yet to hold talks with Spurs over a new deal.
At the moment, the Old Trafford side are leading the race for Kane. Erik ten Hag does not have a lot of options to rely on in the number nine position. Anthony Martial has been injury prone this term, while Wout Weghorst is at the club on loan.
However, speaking to Betfred (h/t Metro), Berbatov, who himself moved to United from the North London side, feels the 29-year-old will tarnish his legacy at the N17 if he leaves them now.
“First of all, is it going to be another saga of Harry Kane being linked with a move somewhere and nothing happens? This is something that’s happened in the last couple of transfer windows. Based on that, I don’t believe that a move will happen.
“I think Harry Kane’s legacy at Tottenham is so big, especially with him becoming the greatest goalscorer in the club’s history, that a move to another team in the Premier League could tarnish that legacy he’s built and would make the fans angry as well.”
In the summer of 2021, the England international was keen to part ways with Tottenham. Manchester City came calling for the forward’s signature. However, in the end, a move did not materialise.
Subsequently, Kane struggled to find his feet at Spurs for some time in the previous campaign. However, the Three Lions’ captain has been brilliant once again this season.
In the current campaign, the 29-year-old has made 31 appearances in all competitions for Antonio Conte’s team, finding the back of the net 19 times and providing three assists. He also became the North London side’s record scorer, with his goal against City in the 1-0 victory.
However, for all of the England international’s fantastic individual displays, he has failed to win any silverware at Tottenham. Hopefully, the striker will consider a move to Manchester.
