Ajax forward Brian Brobbey added to Manchester United shortlist to replace Anthony Martial
Manchester United have added Ajax star Brian Brobbey to their shortlist as a possible replacement for Anthony Martial next summer, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils could pursue the 21-year-old as a backup option in the squad. Erik ten Hag’s existing relationship is a factor in the Old Trafford side’s pursuit of the Holland national.
United are open to selling Martial in the upcoming transfer window. The Red Devils are looking to acquire funds for their ongoing rebuild.
The Old Trafford side are eyeing a long-term striker to bolster the forward line. To that end, Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen are being monitored by the Manchester-based club.
Brobbey has been linked with a move to United previously. The Holland national’s current contract at Ajax runs until the summer of 2027. However, it is unclear what the Eredivisie outfit will demand to part ways with the youngster.
The 21-year-old made his way through the youth ranks at De Godenzonen. Subsequently, RB Leipzig came calling for his services in the summer of 2021. But the forward rejoined the Dutch club once again last summer.
At the moment, Ten Hag has Martial and Wout Weghorst at his disposal for the number nine position. The France international has struggled with injuries in the current campaign, while the Holland international is on loan at the club from Burnley.
United have relied on Marcus Rashford to find the back of the net. Thankfully, the 25-year-old has stepped up to the plate, with other forwards not contributing as much.
