Mark Noble admits West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice wants UCL football amidst Manchester United interest
Former West Ham United star and their current sporting director, Mark Noble, has revealed that Manchester United target Declan Rice wants to play Champions League football.
The England international’s current contract with the Hammers expires in the summer of 2024. At the moment, a number of clubs in the Premier League, including the Red Devils, are eyeing the 24-year-old’s signature.
Speaking to Evening Standard (h/t Mirror), Nobel, who spent his entire career at West Ham and played alongside Rice, feels it is unsurprising for a player like the 24-year-old to want to play in the highest competition in club football.
“We’re West Ham and these players want to go out and play Champions League football – and do you blame them? Dec is no different. Dec will always be hailed at West Ham as a fantastic player and such a top, top person.
“But I don’t think anyone begrudges him wanting to go and win things.”
The 35-year-old is an icon at the London Stadium side. On the pitch, he has shared many moments with the former Chelsea academy star, who is now the captain of the Hammers.
Man United have long admired Rice. Graham Potte’s team are also interested in him. On the other hand, Premier League table-toppers Arsenal have also joined the race to acquire the England international’s services.
The 24-year-old has been one of the best defensive midfielders in the English top flight for some time now. However, David Moyes’ team are struggling in the current campaign after exceeding expectations last season.
In the summer of 2022, the Red Devils signed Casemiro to bolster the middle of the park. The Brazilian has formed a nice partnership with Christian Eriksen in the engine room.
However, the Old Trafford side could do with more quality on the bench. Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek have been unable to show consistency at the Manchester-based club.

Therefore, Rice seems like a decent option to bolster United’s ranks. However, with Casemiro putting on world-class performances week in, and week out, it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will prioritise a move for the West Ham skipper.
