Diogo Dalot ruled out; Luke Shaw a doubt for Manchester United vs Reading
Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot has been ruled out, while Luke Shaw is a doubt for the Red Devils’ fixture against Reading in the FA Cup.
The Portugal international has missed a majority of the matches since returning from the 2022 World Cup. On the other hand, the England international missed the Red Devils’ win over Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.
On Saturday (28 January), the Old Trafford side are set to take on the Royals at home in the fourth round of the FA Cup. The Championship outfit have struggled in the second tier of English football this season.
Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News ahead of Reading’s visit, Ten Hag confirmed Dalot’s absence. The gaffer also raised a question mark over the availability of Shaw.
“Dalot definitely out and Shaw a question mark. We have to see after training.”
The former FC Porto star has been key to Ten Hag’s plans in the current campaign. He has started a majority of United’s fixtures this term. The 23-year-old has leapt ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the pecking order.
Thankfully, in recent weeks, with Dalot out, the former Crystal Palace star has stepped up to the plate. The 25-year-old has deputised admirably for the Portuguese.
As for Shaw, the England international has had a mixed season. Initially, Tyrell Malacia displaced the 27-year-old after some poor performances. However, the former Southampton star has got back into the team.
The left-back has been critical to the team’s success over the last few matches. Ten Hag has also opted to deploy him at centre-back on a few occasions.

While Dalot and Shaw have been important players for us in the current campaign, we should be able to field a strong enough XI to take on Reading. Hopefully, we will get a positive result.
