Manchester United set to face Reading in FA Cup fourth round
The fixtures for the fourth round of the FA Cup have been released and Manchester United will be facing Reading, as confirmed by Manchester Evening News.
Manchester United were comfortable winners in our 3-1 win over Everton in the third round of the tournament and would be facing former United player Paul Ince’s Reading in the next round.
Unlike the last few seasons where nearly every cup draw have not been favourable to us, this season, it does feel like a change as we have been getting feasibly favourable fixtures.
The beauty of the FA Cup is that no team should be taken lightly as just recently happened with Aston Villa, wherein they fell to a loss against League Two side Stevenage.
Hence, anything is possible but on paper facing the likes of Reading would be much nicer than a top Premier League team. Moreover, we have only lost once to them in our history – winning 14 games and drawing seven. The only loss came all the way back in January 1927 in the FA Cup.
Erik ten Hag since his appointment as manager of Manchester United has epitomised the need for trophies to bring back the winning hunger, which has been long gone over the years.
The last major trophy we won was under Jose Mourinho in his first season in charge in the 2016-17 season and with the sixth year running without silverware, it is pertinent that stress should be given to bring back the glory days.
FA Cup is one of the oldest running traditions of English football and holds a big value in every player and manager’s aspirations while making the scale up in football.
