Erik ten Hag unsure how long Manchester United star Donny van de Beek will be out for after knee injury
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is unsure about how long Donny van de Beek will be out after suffering a knee injury against Bournemouth.
The Red Devils took on Gary O’Neil’s team at home on Tuesday (3 January). Towards the end of the first half, the Holland international was tackled by the Cherries’ Marcos Senesi and the Old Trafford side’s midfielder had to be subsequently substituted.
Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag admitted that United still have to run some tests on Van de Beek. However, the injury definitely involves the 25-year-old’s knee.
“Not really, we are still doing investigations – its a knee injury.”
The Holland international signed for the Red Devils in the summer of 2020 from Ajax. Under the Dutch manager in Amsterdam, the midfielder had caught a lot of people’s eyes.
Unfortunately, Van de Beek has been unable to replicate that form in Manchester. At the Old Trafford side, the 25-year-old has rarely gotten the opportunity to start matches.
In the previous campaign, after struggling for game time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, the midfielder signed for Everton on loan. Unfortunately, injuries hampered his spell in Merseyside.
With the appointment of Ten Hag, some fans felt the Holland international would get a chance to redeem himself at United. But fitness issues kept the 25-year-old on the sidelines for the first half of the campaign.
Van de Beek has been given a rare start against Bournemouth and had some good moments in the game. Now, he looks set to be unavailable for an extended period again.
