Chelsea looking to ‘rush’ deal for Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram amidst Manchester United links
Premier League rivals Chelsea are looking to ‘rush’ through a deal for Borussia Monchengladbach star Marcus Thuram amidst links to Manchester United, according to Foot Mercato (h/t Express).
The France international’s current deal with Die Fohlen expires at the end of the campaign. Therefore, the Bundesliga outfit are contemplating whether to cash in on the striker or let him go for free in the summer of 2023.
Cristiano Ronaldo recently departed the Red Devils midway through the season. As a result, the club are in the market for a forward to bolster the attacking line. As a result, the 25-year-old is being eyed by the Old Trafford side.
However, Graham Potter’s team are determined to get a hold of Thuram’s signature in the ongoing transfer window. Instead of agreeing a pre-contract, the Blues want to get the striker in January.
The Stamford Bridge side are compelled by the 25-year-old’s current contract situation at Gladbach. Todd Boehly is ready to pay the required amount to acquire the services of the France international.
Thuram has been in fine form this season for the Bundesliga outfit. Daniel Farke has deployed the forward in the number nine position this season. The French national has scored 13 goals in 17 appearances in all competitions.
The 25-year-old was also part of Didier Deschamps’ squad for the 2022 World Cup. Les Bleus made it to the finals in Qatar, but they lost to Argentina in the penalty shootouts.
United are evidently short up front, with Anthony Martial the only natural striker in the squad. Marcus Rashford is another option Erik ten Hag has used on several occasions in the number nine position.
