Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is not thinking about recalling Amad Diallo to the club from his loan at Sunderland. The Ivory Coast international is thriving in the Championship.

The 20-year-old has made 19 appearances in the second tier of English football for the Black Cats this season. He has found the back of the net six times and has provided an assist.

Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag is delighted with how Diallo has got along at Sunderland. As a result, the Dutch manager is reluctant to cut short the youngster’s loan spell.

“We consider everything but I have a little bit of reservation about [recalling Amad] because I don’t want to stop the process. He has made really good progress there so I’m happy with that.”

The 20-year-old signed for the Old Trafford side in the summer of 2021 from Atalanta. But he spent half a season on loan with the Serie A outfit before coming to Manchester.

Diallo made a few appearances for United over the years. However, the youngster was never able to make a mark in a red shirt. Thus, the club decided to send him to Tyneside to gain more experience.

However, it took the 20-year-old a bit of time to settle in at Sunderland. But he has started the last 11 games for the Championship outfit.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure midway through the season has dwindled the Red Devils’ attacking options. As a result, Anthony Martial is the only natural striker in the team.

But the likes of Marcus Rashford, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho have done well for the club when called upon. The Dutch manager also has Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga at his disposal for the time being.

Considering the competition for a place in the front line, it would be wise to let Diallo continue at Sunderland. If the 20-year-old returns prematurely from his temporary move, it will evidently be hard for him to get regular game time.
