Transfer News: Manchester United set for a three-way battle for Denzel Dumfries
Manchester United and Erik ten Hag could be set for a three-way battle for Inter Milan and the Netherlands right-back Denzel Dumfries.
Speaking on his YouTube channel as relayed by FC Inter 1908 (h/t Express), Italian football reporter Marco Barzaghi has claimed that the Red Devils and the Blues could enter into a “bidding war” for the right-back, while Spurs may offer Emerson Royal in exchange for the player.
He also claims that Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich could offer their own right-back Noussair Mazraoui in exchange for the 26-year-old.
“A bidding war cannot be ruled out with Chelsea, Manchester United and Bayern Munich, who could offer the Moroccan flanker Mazraoui as a counterpart. Tottenham is also on the player and could offer Emerson Royal.”
Dumfries joined the Nerrazzurri in 2021 from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven and has since seen his stocks rise. The 26-year-old has established himself as one of the best in his trade in the right side of the pitch and has top teams lurking around for his signature.
Ten Hag is in hunt for a right-back as Aaron Wan-Bissaka has failed to provide the necessary competition needed. Diogo Dalot has been the first-choice for the majority of the season and that is highly unlikely to change.
As such a new right-back is needed who can provide the necessary competition and help in adding depth, making Dumfries one of the best options to have. The Dutchman has featured in 20 games so far in all competitions, scoring two and assisting three in the process.
However, with other teams also scheming to sign the player, United will likely have to fend off some serious competition for his signature. It is believed that a fee between €50-60 million could be enough to land the right-back.

With the transfer window now open, it remains to be seen if the Red Devils can secure Dumfries’ signature. Should that happen the right-back could play out his prime years at Old Trafford, something that could benefit us immensely going forward.
