Club News: Martin Dubravka has thanked Manchester United and fans for support during his brief time at the club
Martin Dubravka took to his Instagram (h/t Metro) to thank Manchester United and the fans for an “enjoyable experience” during his brief time at the Manchester-based club.
The Slovakia international moved to Old Trafford on a season-long loan deal from Newcastle United which even included the option of making the deal a permanent one next summer.
However, there was also a clause that allowed the Magpies to recall the 33-year-old in January and they have decided to use that option. The goalkeeper has returned back to his parent club after five months with the Red Devils.
Dubravka was bought in to provide competition to David de Gea with manager Erik ten Hag not thinking highly of the Spaniard during the summer transfer window. However, the 32-year-old has only proven himself over time and has won the trust of his manager.
Now, the Newcastle keeper has taken to his Instagram where he thanked the club, it’s staff, players and the fans for an “enjoyable experience” during his short spell with the Red Devils.
He wrote:
“Hi guys, I have been recalled from loan at Manchester United and will return to Newcastle.Although short, it has been an enjoyable experience in Manchester and I wish to sincerely thank all the coaches, staff, players and fans of MUFC for their warmth and support during my loan spell.”
“Regarding Newcastle, I have been delighted to see the club make such an impressive start to the season! Newcastle is my home and I will be back to support the squad and the Goalkeeping group for the second half of the season.”
“As always I will give my all to the team and will contribute in any way that I can to hopefully a memorable season. Wishing you all a very happy new year!
The 33-year-old played only twice for the club, both in the Carabao Cup. The keeper did not impress much and his departure has left Ten Hag with De Gea and Tom Heaton as the only options for between the sticks.
Now, there is the question whether the Red Devils will bring in another keeper or will call up a keeper from the academy should the case arise. United will be wise to remember that they have Dean Henderson on loan at Nottingham Forest.

Getting a keeper for a short loan would be the most sensible choice. With the winter transfer window now open, it remains to be seen if the Red Devils will choose to sign another keeper.
