Manchester United are ‘plotting’ a move for AS Roma and former Chelsea star Tammy Abraham in the upcoming transfer window, according to TeamTalk (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Red Devils are considering getting the 25-year-old’s signature in January to bolster the front line. Erik ten Hag regards the England international as one of his top targets to reinforce the number nine position.

Abraham made his way through the youth ranks at the Stamford Bridge side. At first, the striker spent a few seasons out on loan from the Blues. However, after his impressive spell with Aston Villa in the Championship, Frank Lampard decided to give the forward an opportunity.

With the now Everton manager in the dugout, the 25-year-old performed promisingly at Chelsea in the 2019/20 campaign. However, with Thomas Tuchel’s arrival in West London, the England international found game time hard to come by.

Subsequently, Abraham joined Roma, where he linked up with former United and Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho. In the forward’s debut season with the Giallorossi, the 25-year-old shone.

The English national made 53 appearances in all competitions for the Rome-based club in the previous campaign. He scored 27 goals and provided five assists as the Serie A side won the UEFA Europa Conference League.

However, this season, Abraham has been a bit underwhelming. The 25-year-old also missed out on a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for the 2022 World Cup.

At the moment, Ten Hag has just one natural striker in the squad in Anthony Martial. Unfortunately, the 27-year-old has been unavailable for most of the campaign due to injuries.

Thus, we evidently need to add depth up top. However, will the Red Devils opt to bring Abraham back to the Premier League? Only time will tell.
