Manchester United are ‘in touch’ with Borussia Monchengladbach star Marcus Thuram after his impressive displays at the 2022 World Cup, according to 90min (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The 25-year-old has been in fine form this season for Die Fohlen. As a result, Didier Deschamps picked the striker to represent Les Bleus in Qatar ahead of the Red Devils’ Anthony Martial.

Alongside the Old Trafford side, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are also eyeing the forward’s signature. The two North London sides will compete with the Manchester-based club for him.

Mikel Arteta’s team are currently top of the Premier League table. However, the Gunners have lost Gabriel Jesus after he suffered an injury at the 2022 World Cup with Brazil. They now have Eddie Nketiah as the only number nine in their squad.

On the other hand, Spurs have a stacked forward line after signing Richarlison in the recent transfer window. Antonio Conte can count on the likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevksi up front.

Thuram has shone for Gladbach in the current campaign. Daniel Farke has played the France international in a more central position this season and he has gone on to score 13 goals in 17 appearances in all competitions.

The 25-year-old also contributed in Qatar for Deschamps’ team. He gave the assist for Kylian Mbappe’s equaliser against Argentina in the final to take the game into extra time.

United’s front line has lost a player after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure. Martial has had injury issues in the current campaign. As a result, Erik ten Hag has deployed Marcus Rashford up top on several occasions.

However, in order to compete for titles, we evidently need to add more depth to the number nine position. Whether the Red Devils will end up buying Thuram in January is something only time will tell.
