Chelsea join Manchester United in race for the signature of Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix
Premier League rivals Chelsea have joined Manchester United in the race for the signature of Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix, according to The Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t Mirror].
The Blues are ‘considering’ making a swoop for the 23-year-old in the upcoming transfer window. Initially, the Stamford Bridge side will attempt to bring the Portugal international to the club on a temporary deal.
Along with the Red Devils, table-toppers Arsenal are also eyeing a move for the forward. Aston Villa were also associated with his signature, but a move to a big team seems more likely.
Chelsea signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Raheem Sterling in the recent transfer window after letting go of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner. However, Graham Potter’s team have not inspired much in the current campaign.
As for United, we lost Cristiano Ronaldo just before the mid-season break. The 37-year-old had spent most of his time on the bench at the Old Trafford side since Erik ten Hag’s appointment.
However, the Dutch manager had handed the five-time Ballon d’Or winner more opportunities towards the end. Thus, we are now left with just one natural striker in Anthony Martial.
Marcus Rashfod is another player who has played up front on several occasions. The 25-year-old has been decent. He recently scored an impressive solo goal against Burnley in the Carabao Cup.
Felix has had a hard time at Atletico since signing from SL Benfica. However, the forward thrived at the 2022 World Cup with Portugal. He was a key player for Fernando Santos’ team in Qatar.

The 23-year-old has been underwhelming in Spain, but he still has a lot of potential. But it would be wise for United to bolster the number nine position with an out-and-out striker and opt against buying the Portuguese star for the time being.
