Argentina World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez “focused” on SL Benfica amidst Manchester United interest
SL Benfica star Enzo Fernandez is “focused” on the Primeira Liga outfit amidst interest from Manchester United in his signature. The 21-year-old is a target for the Red Devils.
Liverpool are also eyeing the midfielder. However, according to UOL Esporte (h/t Metro), the Old Trafford side have taken the lead in the race for the Argentina international.
Speaking to the media via Metro, Fernandez is not listening to the talk surrounding his future. The midfielder’s representatives are the ones handling the details of a potential move.
“I don’t know about my future or proposals, that’s what my representative is taking care of. I don’t want to get into the subject. I am focused on Benfica, we have a game on Friday.”
The 21-year-old joined the Eagles in the recent transfer window from River Plate. He has been a pivotal player for Roger Schmidt’s team this season.
Benfica are unbeaten in all competitions in the current campaign. This term, the Argentine has featured 24 times for the Primeira Liga outfit in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing five assists.
Fernandez also shone for La Albiceleste at the 2022 World Cup. The midfielder was key for Lionel Scaloni’s team as they went on to lift the prestigious trophy in Qatar.
United’s midfield has consisted of Casemiro, Christia Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes for the most part. They have cemented their place in Erik ten hag’s plans. The Brazilian and Danish stars have made an immediate impact in Manchester.
However, on the bench, Fred and Scott McTominay leave a lot to be desired. The duo have failed to make a considerable mark in their time at the Old Trafford side. On the other hand, Donny van de Beek has been underwhelming since moving to the Red Devils from Ajax.
