Transfer News: Manchester United leading the race to sign Jeremie Frimpong
According to Give Me Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are leading the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong.
The 22-year-old moved to the Bundesliga club in 2021 and since then has established himself as a regular for the German club. He has gone from strength to strength every season since then and has drawn interest from various European clubs.
Now, the report adds that United are leading the race for his signature. Erik ten Hag has been keen on adding another right-back to his squad and for good reason.
Diogo Dalot has been the go-to defender at the right side for the Red Devils this season. He has been the undisputed first choice and has featured in 20 games so far in all competitions.
The other right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka has only featured twice this season in all competitions and it is clear that the former Crystal Palace man is nowhere near the plans Ten Hag has for this season.
While Dalot has been phenomenal for us this season, there is technically no backup for him in that position. And as such Frimpong makes a very good addition for any team, especially a team such as Man United who could use a quality right-back for the long run.
Frimpong has been crucial for his side this season, featuring in 21 games for them in all competitions, scoring five goals in the process. He has only missed one game so far and that was due to an indirect suspension.
Should the 22-year-old join he is likely to play second fiddle to Dalot. But with the potential the Dutchman has shown he will likely provide tough competition to the Portuguese and it will be an interesting battle to see.
