Manchester United trigger contract extension of Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot, amongst others
Manchester United have triggered the contract extensions of Marcus Rashford, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw and Fred, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.
The four players had an option in their deal to be extended for a further season until June 2024, which the Red Devils have exercised. However, the Old Trafford side have not done the same with David de Gea. The Spaniard’s current contract is also set to expire in the summer of 2023 (transfermarkt).
United are also planning to keep a hold of Rashford and Dalot for the foreseeable future. With that in mind, the Red Devils will also offer the England and Portugal internationals long-term deals.
The 25-year-old academy graduate has been in fine form for the Old Trafford side in the current campaign. He is the leading goalscorer for us this season. The forward has found the back of the net eight times in 19 appearances in all competitions for the Manchester-based club.
Dalot has also been a revelation under Erik ten Hag. The Dutch manager has preferred the former FC Porto star in the starting lineup over Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has played just four minutes of competitive action in the current campaign.
The Portuguese right-back has started in all but one game for United this season. However, the 23-year-old cannot be expected to feature in every game for the rest of the term. Thus, we evidently need a backup option.
Luke Shaw has had a mixed campaign so far. The England international had lost his place in the starting lineup at the start of the season. However, the 27-year-old has been pivotal in the last few fixtures.
Fred has been underwhelming under the Dutch manager. The Brazilian has been pipped in the pecking order by Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

As for De Gea, it remains to be seen whether United opt to keep him. However, it would be wise to not chop and change the squad too much ahead of the next season.
