PSV Eindhoven increase the price tag on the Netherlands star Cody Gakpo amidst Manchester United interested
Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven have once again increased the price tag on the Netherlands star Cody Gakpo to £64.5 million amidst interest from Manchester United, according to Footmercato (h/t Express).
This is the second time the Red and Whites have changed the 23-year-old’s value. After an impressive season with the Dutch club, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s team wanted £52 million for him. However, the forward’s displays at the World Cup have made him even more expensive.
The Red Devils were interested in Gakpo’s signature in the recent transfer window. At that time, PSV wanted £39 million for him. However, the Old Trafford side opted to get Antony from Ajax.
The Brazilian has since had a quick start to life in Manchester. He scored consecutively in his first three games for the club in the Premier League.
As for the Holland international, he has been in fine form for the Eredivisie outfit. In 24 appearances for the Red and Whites in all competitions, the 23-year-old has scored 13 goals and has provided 17 assists.
Gakpo has also been a key player for Louis van Gall in Qatar. The 23-year-old scored in every group stage fixture for the Oranje. Now, the Netherlands have made it to the quarter-finals, where they will face Argentina.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure has dwindled Erik ten Hag’s options up front. The Portugal international had become an essential player for the Dutch manager due to Anthony Martial’s consistent injury issues this season.
Marcus Rashford has played as our number one for most of the campaign. While the 25-year-old has done well, he leaves a lot to be desired in front of goal.
