Bayern Munich enter race for Borussia Monchengladbach and France striker Marcus Thuram amidst Manchester United links
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have entered the race for Borussia Monchengladbach and France star Marcus Thuram amidst links to Manchester United, according to Sport Mediaset via Newcastle World (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Bavarians have tabled an offer for the Les Bleus international, which would see him move to the German champions next summer on a five-year deal. However, the 25-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season and Die Fohlen would rather sell him in January.
But, Thuram could opt to hold off on a move in the winter transfer window and wait for the summer. In that case, Bayern are ready to make a move for the French national ahead of the Red Devils.
The Bavarians lost their talisman Robert Lewandowski in the summer of 2022 to Barcelona. They did reinforce their attack with Sadio Mane and Mathys Tel. However, it is difficult to replace the influence the Poland international had in his years with the Bundesliga giants.
Thuram has been in fine form for Gladbach in the current campaign. In 17 appearances for the German outfit in all competitions, the striker has scored 13 goals and provided four assists. He has thrived since being moved to the centre-forward position by Daniel Farke.
As a result, the 25-year-old made it into Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad and has come on as a substitute against Australia, Denmark and Poland. He provided an assist for France’s third goal in their 3-1 win over the White and Reds.
As for United, the untimely departure of Cristiano Ronaldo has dwindled Erik ten Hag’s options up front. While the 37-year-old was not the first name on the team sheet for under the Dutch manager, he was handed considerable minutes because of Anthony Martial’s injury issues,
Marcus Rashford has primarily played in the number nine position for the Red Devils in the current campaign. The 25-year-old has done well for the Old Trafford side this season.

However, the England international is not a natural striker. Also, United evidently need to add strength in depth to the attack for the rest of the campaign. Thus, Thuram’s ability to find the back of the net makes him a compelling option.
