Mauricio Pochettino believes England and Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has quality to get to the top

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino believes England and Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has the quality to get to the top. The Argentine head coach admires the 25-year-old.

The Red Devils’ academy graduate has been in fine form in the current campaign. At the club level, the forward is currently the Old Trafford side’s leading goalscorer, with eight goals in all competitions.

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News), Pochettino revealed his admiration for Rashford. The former Paris Saint-Germain manager, who was relieved of his duties this summer for Christophe Galtier to take charge, feels the 25-year-old needs confidence to become a great player.

“I’ve always liked him, I knew of his process because I was in England, but I think he’s a great player. He just needs the confidence and for himself to believe, to put him at the top level. The quality is there for him.”

The Argentine could have been the one managing the England international. Pochettino was one of the names in the running to become United’s next manager earlier this year. The Argentine head coach has come up against our academy graduate several times during his time with Spurs and Southampton.

In the end, Erik ten Hag was appointed in the Old Trafford side’s dugout. Thankfully, under the Dutch manager, Rashford has seemingly found his feet once again. In the previous campaign, the 25-year-old looked devoid of confidence.

However, since the pre-season under Ten Hag, the forward has been performing well. He has been preferred in the number nine position by the former Ajax head coach in the team.

With Anthony Martial out injured, the burden of scoring goals has fallen on Rashford. While Cristiano Ronaldo has now left, Ten Hag did not give him regular minutes in the starting lineup. The Portugal international did not contribute much when he did feature this season.

Alongside being pivotal for the Old Trafford side, the 25-year-old has been impressive with England at the World Cup. The forward scored in the Three Lions’ opening game against Iran and scored a brace in the 3-0 win over Wales during the group stages.

The United fanbase will be glad to see Rashford shining for both club and country. Hopefully, he can continue to deliver for the Red Devils once he returns from Qatar as we look to make the UEFA Champions League spots this season under new management.
